What to do
Once per week, review your spending against your budget: how much did you spend in each category vs what you planned? Adjust next week's plan if needed. Takes 10–15 minutes.
Why it works
Creates the feedback loop between spending tracking and intentional planning, surfaces category overspending before it becomes debt, and builds financial competence over time.
Research backing
Research from the Financial Therapy Association found that individuals who review their budget weekly reduce budget variance significantly more than those who review only monthly, since shorter feedback loops allow course correction before small overspends compound.
