What to do
Spend time gardening or tending to plants today — watering, pruning, repotting, planting, or simply observing. Even 5 minutes with a houseplant counts.
Why it works
Gardening reduces cortisol, improves mood, provides light physical activity, connects you to nature, and gives a sense of nurturing and growth. Plant care is associated with reduced depression and anxiety.
Research backing
A 2023 randomized controlled trial published in The Lancet Planetary Health found that participants assigned to community gardening experienced significantly greater reductions in perceived stress and anxiety than non-gardening control groups over the study period.
